REASON FOR TESTING OF HIV I & II / HIV CARD / HIV RAPID
It is advised in individuals with have
risk factors like:
- Has an partner who is HIV positive
- Is a man who has had sex with another man
- Had unprotected sex with more than one partner and is not
sure of HIV status of others.
- Has used recreational drugs by injection, especially by
needle exchange.
- Has had sex with anyone who falls into one of the
categories listed above or is uncertain about their sexual
partner's risk behaviours.
- Patients of Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and other Sexually
transmitted Diseases.
- A health care worker who is in direct contact of blood and
body secretions.
WHAT IS BEING TESTED IN HIV I & II / HIV CARD / HIV RAPID
Antibodies are produced by the body in
reaction to the presence of a virus. An HIV antibody test measures
the presence of antibodies in response to the presence of HIV.It
usually comes positive after 4 to 6 weeks.
INTERPRETATION OF HIV I & II / HIV CARD / HIV RAPID TEST RESULT
REACTIVE-implies
presence of antibodies to HIV
NON REACTIVE-
implies absence of antibodies .In window period rapid card will be
negative.
ALL REACTIVE CASES need to be confirmed by Western
Blot
