Thyroid Test which is also called Thyroid Function Test is a simple blood test which is done to examine the thyroid gland. It looks for any abnormality in the tyroid gland and to diagnose thyroid disorders. On the contrary if it produces very little of these hormones then the condition is called hyperthyroidism.
Thyroid Function Test do not require any special preparation. You can have your normal diet and carry on your regular activities before the test.
The procedure of thyroid test is similar to that of blood test. A tight elastic band will be put around your arm to make your veins more visible. Then a needle will be injected into your vein to draw the blood samples. After drawing enough blood samples the needle will be removed and a cotton ball will be pressed on the punctured site to stop the bleeding. The blood samples will be then sent to the laboratory for further testing.
